session DESCRIPTION
This is a case-based session designed to provide attendees with practical guidance on two new ASTRO genitourinary guidelines. The session will be split between the bladder cancer and localized prostate cancer guidelines, highlighting key recommendations and new evidence. Bladder - RT is a critical component of bladder cancer care across the spectrum of disease, including definitive TMT, postoperative therapy in high-risk patients, and palliation and symptom control in advanced and metastatic disease. Successful use of RT in these clinical scenarios requires coordinated multidisciplinary care with shared decision making, careful patient selection, and integration with systemic therapy. It is essential to understand the indications for trimodal therapy (TMT), how outcomes following TMT compare with radical cystectomy, how to integrate RT with systemic therapy, and the technical aspects of how RT is performed. Prostate - External beam RT is a standard definitive local treatment for localized prostate cancer. Hypofractionation represents a means of potentially improving the therapeutic ratio from RT and two approaches have developed in clinical practice: moderate hypofractionation (MHF) and ultrahypofractionation (UHF)/SBRT. With the emergence of high-quality evidence over the past decade, this guideline provides updated recommendations on the use of MHF and UHF.
learning objectives
- Identify indications for radiation therapy in the treatment of bladder and prostate cancer.
- Identify appropriate dose-fractionation regimens and target volumes for treating bladder and prostate cancer.
- Determine appropriate techniques for the planning and delivery of radiation therapy for bladder and prostate cancer.
