MODERATOR(S)
Yulia Lyatskaya, PhD, DABR - Brigham and Womens Hospital
session DESCRIPTION
As complexity of radiation therapy increases, ensuring that health care institutions meet rigorous quality standards becomes paramount. Accrediting programs have become a critical instrument for medical practices to achieve comprehensive external assessments and demonstrate their commitment to quality of care. To provide accurate and relevant practice evaluation, accrediting bodies need to adopt new treatment modalities and new indications as they become clinical standards. Radiopharmaceutical therapy (RPT) is a growing, dynamic field in oncology, offering targeted treatments for various cancers, including prostate, thyroid, and neuroendocrine tumors. As the use of radiopharmaceuticals in clinical practice expands, the need for addressing this new modality through accreditation becomes critically important. This session will provide a comprehensive overview of the changes to the accrediting space to accommodate radiopharmaceutical therapy assessments. Focusing on the APEx radiopharmaceutical therapy accreditation process the session will highlight the role of accreditation in enhancing patient safety, improving treatment efficacy, and fostering interdisciplinary collaboration across specialties. Attendees will gain insight into the specific requirements for obtaining accreditation and the benefits for clinical practice.
learning objectives
- Recognize the benefits of accreditation, including improved patient safety, standardized practices, and enhanced treatment quality.
- Discover the process for maintaining accreditation and the continuous quality improvement practices when new treatment modalities are introduced in clinic with a concentration on radiopharmaceutical therapy.
